Question:

I have no gym equipment at home, how could i work out my lower back?

Answers:

Believe it or not, your body is the best piece of equipment you own for stregthening your lower back.

The reason I say this is because it is our bodies that weaken our lower backs through poor posture.

You don't need anything but a chair to do some simple exercises that can help.

Place your hands on the back of a kitchen chair for balance, and pretend that you are not done growing yet. In other words, consciously straighten out your spine upward, one vertebrae at a time until you can visualize yourself as being one inch taller. As you repeat these simple moves, you will find your lower back being strenghthened.

While you are still standing there, after a set of the spine extending exercises, take in a deep breath. Next, slowly exhale until all of the excess air has been expelled from your lungs. (Don't worry, you will still have plenty of oxygen to spare.) Once you got to a certain point, did you feel your abs contract? If not, then practice this until they do, and repeat several times, as long as you don't feel faint.

You are probably wondering what in the world that last one has to do with your question.

Remember the old diddy about this bone connected to that bone, etc?

Your abs are actually made up of three very strong sets of muscles that overlap and provide support for your internal organs, your digestive tract, and, yes, your lower back.

When you strengthen your abs, if you go far enough, you are stregthening your lower back.

Then there are the exercises not to do. One is named after a large piece of warehouse equipment. Is is called a forklift. Of course, if you are careful about what you lift, you can use the fork as much as you like.

Lastly, as much as possible, don't use the back of the chair you are sitting in, or the sofa, or especially the recliner. (That last one is a tough one, isn't it.) Always sit up straight and your lower back strength will improve.

I guess that is enough for now.
