Why do you gain weight on the depo injection?!

I had a heated conversation with a contraception nurse once about this, she was trying to tell me that it doesnt make you gain weight but eventually she admitted that it contains a chemical which increases your appetite which in turn makes you eat more and then put weight on, so although the depo isnt directly responsible for weight gain it is the indirect cause of it!. I guess the only way you can manage it is to try and eat a bit less and try and make the food you do eat as healthy as possible, try making a food diary of what you eat, every time you eat something from a full meal to pinching a chip/sweet off a friend, write it down and then you can reflect on it at the end of the week and then try and cut out all that pinching lol =)
