Question:

Need to lose some weight and get back in shape!?

I am planning on working out M-F because my weekends are full and Ill use those days for rest. I want some opinions on my plan... thanks
M- 30 min cardio, abs, back
T- 30 min cardio, arms, shoulders, chest
W- 60 min cardio- 45 min elliptical, 15 min bike
Th- 30 min cardio, legs
F- 30 min cardio, abs, back

Or... I have the windsor pilates basic DVD one is 20 mins the other is 60 mins so should I just do this and skip the weights at the gym all together....

Just starting a workout routine and need to lose 30 lbs and get back in shape. Ill also be doing a whole lot of nothing during the week as its summer and Im a college student with no job... and Ill be eating healthy as well thanks!


Answers:

I'm sure you know how to eat healthy (but check out mypyramid.gov anyway)

as for your plan:
usually it takes about 60 minutes of elevated heart rate for the effects of exercise to really kick in...therefore I would suggest modifying your workout to be 45-60 minutes per day, up to 120 minutes on any given day...
also, pilates are good but weights will also help the "get back in shape part" so I'd suggest alternating those a little more

finally, if you are doing a whole lot of nothing, I recommend volunteering somewhere like an animal shelter, hospital or other place that will have you moving (nothing like running after a 60 pound lab that's so happy to be out of the cage to get you back in shape)
