Ohhhhh you asked the right guy!

I am an oatmeal master!. :-)

My favorite recipe that I made up is:

1!. A good scoop (about a 1/2 cup to cup) of oatmeal!.
2!. Cook some barley, cracked wheat, or buckwheat ahead of time, and add some in with the oatmeal for some extra grains!. Be sure and cook the extra grain beforehand, because they take longer to cook!. If you add everything in raw, it will take forever to get done!.
3!. Add some raw bran, which is good for you and gives it a nice taste!.
4!. If you can get it, buy some millet and add some in!. Millet is a natural grain and tastes good in it!.
5!. Cut up some apple and banana!. Cut the apple up in tiny pieces, and do the same with the banana!.
6!. If you can, buy some blueberries or blackberries!. This makes it taste sooooo good!.
7!. Use a little more water than the oatmeal directions say, but don't add too much!. Cook the oatmeal a lot longer, and the starch in the oatmeal will dissipate and make it thick and creamy!. This becomes like a thick porridge, and it's excellent! Most people cook it according to the recipe and the oats end up like playdough!. Yuck!.

And this part is MOST important!.!.!.!.

8!. Don't add the dash of salt until the oatmeal is almost done!. Salt in the oats makes it less creamy - it keeps the starches from breaking down and dissipating!. So no salt in in early on!.

You can add some milk or cream while cooking, which is good, too!.

Toss everything in a pot and cook, stirring often!. Add water as necessary!. Cook a good while, and stop when the oatmeal looks nice and creamy!.

Afterwards you can add some cream and sugar (For cream I use heavy cream or half and half)!.

And that, my friend, is the way to make a spectacular pot of oatmeal!. I learned this from the Germans when I was stationed in Germany!. this comes out a little more like an authentic meusili!.

You can alter the recipe some, such as just doing blueberries and bananas and no apple, or leave the extra grains out (however they do make it really good)!. You can even leave the fruit out if you want, or do less fruit!. You choose!.

The quick oats make it creamier than the raw oats, however the raw oats are better for you (if you're dieting, for example)!. Since I'm dieting I don't use cream or sugar!. I do use some splenda, though!. Also, if dieting, the good thing about adding extra water is it cook up and gets really thick, so if you use 1/2 cup oats with grains and fruit, you end up with a huge pot of oatmeal despite not using too many raw ingredients!. Blueberries are low in sugar and high in fiber!.

With the fruit in it, I don't even use sugar!. The fruit cooks down too, and it gets soft and melts in your mouth!.

Enjoy!

PS - If you get a chance, buy some Irish oats!. You'll have to cook it longer, but it is amazing!. They're thicker grain, and very tasty!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
