I recently found out that I may have a thyroid disorder. Has anyone lost weight !

Question:

I recently found out that I may have a thyroid disorder. Has anyone lost weight after medication?

Over the last 8 or 9 months I have been gaining a little more weight than I ever have before. At about the same time my cycle got a little messed up too. I went to see my doctor and my thyroid screening came back abnormal. I have read that having thyroid problems can slow down and almost shut off a body's metabolism, so I'm thinking this would explaim my recent weight problems and inability to lost the weight. I was wondering if anyone who has a thyroid problem but is on medication has had similar weight issues and after the medication was able to lose the weight? how quickly did your body's metabolism bounce back after medication?

Answers:

Only a rare few will lose weight just from thyroid medication. Most need to get the morning TSH around 1.0 and diet and exercise. Then there are others who develped insulin resistance fomthe weight gain and that has to be treated.

The best advice I can give you is test always inthe morning. Learn about hypothyroidism as working with your doctor is the best way to feel good again. Below are links on the condition.

Your body never completely bounces back. You will most likely have to work hard to lose the weight and keep it off. Hopefully you are one of the lucky ones that it happens just by starting thyroid hormone. It's not the norm, but it does happen sometimes.

Stay away from diet pills. They will eventually slow your metabolism more. Learn more and join a thyroid forum where you can talk to others in the same situation.
