Weight Lifting with Cardio?!

Question: Weight Lifting with Cardio!?
I want to build muscle and have a better definition of them by losing fat!. Im 5'11 and 160 lb with 18% body fat!. If I weight lift and run or do some other cardio work, will the cardio impede my muscles ability to grow!. Or can I still gain muscle and lose fat with a cardio and lifting workout!. I dont want to weight lift and run and my muscles not grow because I overworked my body!. Will I be able to get ripped (or a lower body fat %) while I weight lift and do cardio!? Thanks for any info!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

OK, let's dispel a few rumors that have somehow festered into fact:

1!. MUSCLE BURNS FAT -- Not true!. It is true that one extra pound of muscle on your frame burns about 50 more calories per day, but adding more muscle to your frame does not automatically turn your body into a fat-burning machine!. It's all a careful balance between diet and exercise!.

2!. CARDIO IS THE ONLY WAY TO BURN FAT -- This is one of the biggest lies that has been perpetuated for over two decades!. You can burn almost as many calories per hour by walking, and walking burns fat almost exclusively!. Cardio burns mostly glycogen, which is burned out of your system after about 40 minutes of cardio, so guess what gets burned if you do cardio for more than 40 minutes!? MUSCLE!.

3!. YOU CAN'T GAIN MUSCLE AND BURN FAT AT THE SAME TIME!. Not true!. It's difficult to get into that zone where you're burning fat and adding muscle at the same time, but it can be done with proper diet and exercise!. So it's not detrimental to do cardio with weight training, but don't do too much and don't do cardio too often or it WILL be detrimental!.

To answer your question: You can do weight training and cardio at the same time, but don't do cardio more than 3 times a week for more than 40 minutes at a time (30 minutes is better) or you risk burning the muscle you're trying to add!. Also, if you do cardio and weight training in the same workout, do weight-training first -- if you do cardio first, you'll burn out your first-tier energy stores, resulting in a much less productive workout!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You need both but timing is key!. I would prefer you do cardio at a seperate time than your training session but most people can not!. Never do cardio before your workout!. Perform after!. Also no need to do 30 min or more!. While trying to increase muscle mass performing to much cardio can in fact use your muscle as fuel puting you in a catabolic state which will be counter productive if your trying to put on muscle!. Make sure you take consume protein and carbe before and after a workout!.
