Tips for gaining stomach and arm muscles?

I'm 15, and kind of out of shape. I could really use some advice on how to get some abs. The only thing I'll rule out is running (tried it for three months. made life hell, and didn't do a thing for my body) So any other ideas would be great. Thank you =]


Answers:

Crunches & push-up are the way to get muscles on your stomach for sure. Do it everyday but not too much. I would start with sets of 6 repeated 10 times. Do not crunch fast. It works best when you can actually feel the stomach muscles pulling your head & shoulders up, not your arms doing the work. Also keep the fingers laced very lightly behind head so as not to get lazy. You can also try sit-ups using an exercise ball. They are very good for balance, which in turn tones full body muscles.

Start the push-ups with knees on the ground, feet lightly crossed. After a few day/weeks you will know when you can do it with legs straight out without needing knees on the ground.

Most importantly remember that you are still growing. Any exercise you take up now should be light. Because of your age light work out will work much more than someone twice that age. If at any point you feel pain stop & stretch & start again. Never ignore pain. So take it easy, stay consistent with the workout & ofcourse eat lots of healthy stuff & you''ll have those abs & arms which not only looks nice but they'll make you strong & keep you healthy in the long run :)
