Should I be worried?!

Question:

Should I be worried?

I am 12 years old, 5' 4" and 133 pounds. I am worried about becoming overweight. I think that I eat too much junk food, but I'm a picky eater. I know it's unhealthy to be eating bad food, but it's the only food that really appeals to me. How do I help this? I have a friend who is 5' 7" and is 110 pounds and eats a lot of junk food but doesn't gain weight. I can't help feel slightly jealous, but anyways, should I be worried?

I play volleyball as a sport, but I'm not very good. I'm not motivated to play sports because I'm not good at all.

Answers:

Well of course we're all attracted to junk food, it'd be almost un-American not to be!

Rule of thumb though; habits take 2 days to make and 14 to break. Get into a habit of switching out one junk food item for a healty alternative each week, gradually increasing one each week.

After a while, you'll start to actually crave healthy food. Your body knows what it needs but now, it realizes it's getting it's main nutrition from junk, so it's craving more to try and fill the gaps.

Don't starve yourself or ban yourself from eating junk all together, that's how eating disorders and a super-low self esteem are created. And as for your friend, just wait. Once she gets older, her metabolism will most likely even out and she'll have to exercise like the rest of us;)
