A pound is 3600 calories, so it takes how ever long it takes you to have burned 3600 calories more than you have consumed!. If you stick to a good diet (remeber diet doesn't have to be 'cold turkey', just controlling quantity and doing your best to eat good foods) and maybe exercise for 30-45 mins 4 times a week at a level that causes you to 'huff and puff', then you should lose on average 1-3 pounds a week!.
