Atkins Diet...?!

Atkins Diet...?

OK I Lost 20 Pounds In 1 month on the atkins diet, then it stopped so i started exercising with it and it wont work anymore. my mom did it a few years ago and said "thats the way the diet is you lose some and then it stops"
I Really Need To Lose More, What Do i do??

A couple of things are happening.

First of all, you've probably hit a plateau. This is normal, weight loss is not linear but occurs in fits and starts. I've been known to sit at the same weight for a few months and then suddenly drop some more weight without changing anything.

Secondly, make sure you're still following the plan carefully and not falling victim to "carb creep". Try using Fitday.com or another menu calculating site to make sure you're not going over your carb allowance.

Thirdly, don't forget that you have 20 pounds less to support, so you don't need to consume as many calories as you did before you lost weight.

Fourth, exercise will increase your muscle while burning fat. Since muscle is denser than fat, it is entirely possible that you are shrinking even though your weight stays the same. I once went for 4 months without losing a single pound, but everyone was commenting on how much I was losing because the exercise was making me shrink.
