Question: Will sleeping after weightlifting make me lose muscle!?
I wake up early and am busy all day so during the week I workout at night, take a shower and go to sleep!. Normally I would be able to feel it the next day but since ive worked at night the pain has just seemed to disapear!. I think of this as a bad thing and think I might be losing muscle!. Anyone have an Idea!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
No!. It will probably help you to gain weight!. This is because when you exercise in the morning it raises your metabolic rate for the rest of the day!. So by exercising at night you should burn less calories!. But be sure to take in your protein when your exercise!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The only problem with working out late like that is that you're not getting adequate post-workout nutrition!. A person needs more than a proteins/carb shake after a workout, they need continued intake of protein/carb/fats for a few hours after the workout for optimum results!. After a weights workout especially, the body is potentially in a highly anabolic mode, meaning muscle cells are in a highly insulin responsive state!. By denying them adequate post-workout nutrition you are not taking advantage of this!. If nutrition is inadequate enough, yes, it could plunge the body into catabolism, especially during the fast of sleep!. Though sleep may be a time of recovery, it's true, without adequate nutrition for your body to build on it simply won't grow and will utilize hard-earned lean muscle tissue instead!.

For optimum results you should have a post-workout recovery shake of a protein/carb blend (no fats)!. About an hour later have a whole food low GI meal!. Before bed have a low carb, high protein, moderate fat meal like cottage cheese or some casein protein and flax seed oil (for example)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Truthfully your muscle growth happens while you rest, when you lift it causes "tears" in the muscle fibers!. While you are resting the fibers repair the dammaged fibers adding size to that area!. I would use a good protein source within 30minutes to an hour after working out to aid in the recovery of the muscle, add to that some sort of clean carb source to replace the glycogen stores you depleted during the workout as well!. As for the pain having seemed to disappear this could be from the muscles becoming used to a particular routine!. Mix up the way you lift by changing the exercises or at least which ones you do 1st!. Changing your routine will "shock" your muscling and cause it to adjust and increase your growth again!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

YES you need proper rest (and nutrition) when weightlifting / bodybuilding but WHEN you rest doesn't make a darn bit of difference!.

Many bodybuilders work out in the morning!. Many work out in the evening!. Obviously, when they work out and exercise and when YOU choose to work out depends upon everyone's own preference and schedule!.

Yes, when you work out you ARE tearing DOWN muscle!. Sounds scary, but muscle is highly rejeavenated tissue!.!.!. it grows easily and quickly!. If your muscles could talk, they would say something like this: "Jeez, if this guy is going to put me through all of this work, I need to grow and get stronger just to keep up!."

If you're not feeling sore anymore, you may need to up your workout, vary your lifting routine, etc!. Your muscles are already getting used to your routine!.

So no, sleeping will not make you lose muscle!. You do need sleep!. But yes, go ahead and work out at night if you want to!. Note: SOME people work out better when they have more energy!. It's possible if you're waiting until the end of the day to work out, your workouts aren't as intense as they could be in the morning!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sleeping after working out will not make you lose muscle!. In fact you'll see better gains!. Sleep and rest is how your muscles repair!. The more you rest the better!.

You don't want to sleep too soon after working out!. Give it 1-2 hours after training to sleep!.

Another problem is that you don't seem to be eating after training!. Basically you're tearing your muscle down!. Now they're searching for nutrients and you're not giving them any for 8-10 hours!.
At the very least you need to get in a good protein shake immediately after training!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Actually the only time you build muscle is when you sleep!. Weightlifting tears your muscle apart and the repair that your body does is what grows the muscle!. It can only repair your muscles when you sleep!. So sleep is extremely important when you're lifting!. I read an article about garbage men and how physical the job is and how little they sleep!. So it's very hard for them to grow muscle despite the job because they get such little sleep!. What's probably happening is that you're giving your body such a huge headstart on repairing the muscle by going to sleep immediately after working out that much of the muscle is repaired by the time you wake up so you don't get any pain!. That's what I did when I got my tongue pierced!. I got it pierced like two hours before going to bed to give my body a headstart so I would feel less pain!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Our bodies are in a constant state of repair!. It don't wait until we rest or anything like that!. The very moment you tear the muscle fiber the body is working toward repairing that - even though, you are continueing to tear the same muscle further!. We do not see this since we are not letting the repair process proceed for any length of time of its own!. Once we complete our workout this repair process continues on its own now, and some time later we will notice the results of this!.
Our bodies process procede on a timeline of their own with no reguard to our schedules!.!.!. so what we do will never cause those process to wait until we are done one thing before a process can occur!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Resist hit it on the head!. Working out and then going to sleep will make you loose muscle!. This is the reason that a lot of people are mistaken because they are forgetting about post workout nutrition and even worse sleeping with no fuel!.

after during your workout your body is using tons of its resources to duel itself thats why its very importiant to mind nutrient timing and post workout meals!. which is bad for you also because eating a big meal before bed is bad as well!. Without positive nutritients in the body like Potein and carbs will leave the body to look for other mean of fuel which will be fat and muscle!. During your sleep is when your body works the hardest in recovering from your day let alone your workout!. 6-8 hours of sleep will leave your body heavily depleated because your are working out, going to bed and not eating for another 6-8 hours!. The average person is depleated of nutrients withing 3-5 hours tops!. Therefor muscle is being burned!. :(

I would suggest working out earlier!. If this is not a possibility than I would at least leave a 2hr gap before bed!. Eat some protein and carbs!. Mabey some tuna and oatmeal!. Doesnt sound like the best combo but it works!.

I would highly reccomend picking up some casein protein!. Casein is a slow digesting protein, which is perfect during sleep!. And no you will not gain fat!. I promise!. You will notice waking up with fuller muscles and and a better sense of well being!. Checkout Otimum Nutrition Casein protein

As long as you don't go to sleep like 5 minutes after the workout, it's fine!. The only time you build muscle is when you're sleeping, not in the gym, so it's fine to sleep after, you'll still be building!. Remember to have as much protein as possible after the workout, and a good meal or at least a snack is necessary!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it does not make you lose muscle!. You should workout and give it some time before you sleep!. 30 minutes to a hour is good!. You should have a nutritional meal after you workout to boost the recovery process!. Your body needs protein and vitamins to recover torn muscle after lifting!. Sleeping after you workout is good becasu your bodyis resting and it makes it easier to restore and synthesize your musclesWww@Answer-Health@Com

Just make sure you have a little snack with about 75% carbs and 25% protein in it !.!. I watched FitTV the other day and the ones who do the triathalons know that there's a 30minute "window" where the best way to help recovery (and building muscles I guess) so 30minutes after working out (but because they go so long, they also consume these things during a workout (triathalon)!. That way when you sleep you are more likely to rebuild that muscle because of the protein!.!.!. also muscle is mostly water if you ever cook meat!.!.!. it shrinks because of the water content!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

make sure you at least have an hour from when you workout to when you go to bed!. if you are trying to build muscle you need to eat something after a workout!. i prefer a can of tuna and a protein shake!. if you do not have an hour between workout and sleep you still should eat something, your body needs food to build muscle!. also try mixing up the workouts, your body will become immune to the same workout over and over and you will limit your growth!.!.!.hope that helpsWww@Answer-Health@Com

No, it does the opposite, it should allow you to gain muscle more easily because during sleep your body is repairing the tiny rips in the muscle (aka, building muscle)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

like everyone has said sleeping helps repair muscle, but in order for that to work you have to get protein first, eat within an hour after you workout thats when your body absorbs the most protein, then if you want you can sleepWww@Answer-Health@Com

When you sleep your muscles recover!. thats a good thing

soreness doesnt mean you are building muscles, it means you've worked it a lot!. wether you recover to get stronger is up to the way you eat and sleep!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It helps to sleep after working out but its fine if your working out in the morning, my dad works out in the morning because hes too tired at the end of the day and he is in great shape!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Nasically what everyone else said!. Eat a little bit of protein before you go to bed and sleeping is actually better than staying up!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Building muscle is done while you sleep, not while you're pumping so getting enough good rest is essential for putting on mass!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

That is because your are healing from the damaging effects of the exercise might have on you!. You heal at night when you sleep!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

no your muscles need sleep, but make sure your getting enough protein after your workout!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
