Do squats work the same muscles as the leg press?!

Question: Do squats work the same muscles as the leg press!?
Im getting ready for the football season and i am lifting in my school weight room!. I know that squats are very helpful but i really dislike them and was wondering if the leg press works as well as doing squats!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Not really!. Squats, by using free weights, tone your stabilizing muscles in addition to your quads, as well as train your brain to coordinate your muscles to balance heavy things!. The leg press on the machine will isolate your quads and only work them!. If you do only the machine press, you will probably end up strong but unstable when it comes to pushing people around on the field!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

the are both closed chained exercises so they are similar in that aspect!. the squat gives greater overall body stimulation since the upper body is used to help support the load along with the core muscles!. the mechanics of each is different which is seen since there is no carry-over from one exercise to the other!. in other words an efficient squatter won't neccessarily be an efficient leg presser and vice versa!. the angle that each is performed is also different which means the muscle fiber recruitment pattern for each is different!. so you could substantially increase the leg strength using one or the other but for optimum hypertrophy in the legs utilize both!. most research has shown the leg press to supplement the squat and not replace it as an exercise!.

in terms of building muscle mass both can be used!. the mechanics of everyones body is different due to variances in the length and cross sectional area of bone, tendon and ligament!. that being the case some athletes are more efficient at one exercise than the other!. i've seen people build powerful and strong legs using both exercises!.

yes they do, but they work different!.

With squats you bear the weight on your shoulders so there is a lot of auxillary muscle support, you have to balance the weight and support it with your abdomen, back and shoulder muscles and that is why they are a lot harder, the main target muslces is still your quadraceps, hamstrings and buttocks though!.

With the leg presses, the weight is distibuted on the lower back and hips!. It is a machine so there is little auxillary muscle support to balance the weight, it is already balanced by the machine, but it also targets the quads, hams and buttocks!.

Squats will work more and you will see a better result, but it is easier to get injured doing squats that leg presses!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They're both pretty much the same, because both focus a vast majority on the quadriceps and hamstrings, but being a football and track player, ALL of my coaches have taught our teams to squat and not leg press!. Leg press is okay if you're too sore to squat for that day, but otherwise stick with squats because they are so much better at working your leg muscles and it makes you remarkably more explosive than the leg press will!.

My advice would just to toughen up and start squating more and getting used to it!. I know it kind of sucks because I hated them too, but it really makes a HUGE difference over leg press!. Again though, if all you have available is a leg press machine, that's okay, remember that leg press will work - But I would argue that parallel squats work about 3-5 times BETTER than presses!. Hope this helps, and good luck with football this year-Www@Answer-Health@Com

That all depends on what muscles that you want to work!. The leg press and the squat work the same leg muscles, but the squat works more of your core and lower back muscles as well!. I would recommend, because you are training for football, that you stick with the squats even though they cause discomfort during the workout!. Your core muscles are very important in football- they can create better balance for you and a strong lower back is essential for delivering hard hits!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Squat work some of the same muscles but don't work the core or any stabilser muscles and therefore are inferior!. Squats a re way better!. For fottball depending on your position try car pushing as this is an excellent exercise for football!. Just find an empty lot and push for speed or distance than turn it around for rest and repeat until you legs are jelly!. Also one arm clean and presses are excellent full body developers!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

squats work more than the quadracepts they require you ballance the weight which will take plenty of tiny muscles in your feet and legs that leg presses do not need as balance is given to you
I'm thinking of another activity that shares the dynamic that squats hold
How about riding a bicycle!? Wouldn't racers have more available energy to pedal with if the had training wheels so they never had to balance their bikes!?
Leg presses do not allow for as many muscles to be worked : they are linear just as the motion suggests
I would venture to say you can press more than you can squat at this moment-!?
Imagine being able to squat more than you can press, dead lift , bench press all combined
You need to develope the muscles that are associated with squats more than you realize
The more you do them with good form the easier they will get
Form is critical
Have someone watch you squat a weight you are comfortable with and thenm observe you squatting a weight that makes you nervous to compare your form
Have a great season

Put simply, yes squats work the same muscles as the leg press but work many more muscles as well!. Squats are better for your body than leg presses!. It's too bad that you dislike squats, because when properly performed, they are enormously beneficial!.
There is a great poem about squats!.
"Way down this road, in a gym far away, A young man was once heard to say, "I've repped high and I've repped low, No matter what I do, my legs won't grow" He tried leg extensions, leg curls, and leg presses too, Trying to cheat, these sissy workouts he'd do!. From the corner of the gym where the BIG men train, Through a cloud of chalk and the midst of pain, Where the big iron rides high and threatens lives, Where the noise is made with big forty-fives, A deep voice bellowed as he wrapped his knees, A very big man with legs like trees!. Laughing as he snatched another plate from the stack, Chalking his hands and monstrous back, said, "Boy, stop lying and don't say you've forgotten, The trouble with you is you ain't been SQUATTIN'!."
