Dieting....calories...CONFUSED????!
Question:
Dieting....calories...CON...
Alright...I am really confused. I have been reading a lot to find out what the healthiest way to lose weight is (I'm not fat at all...I'm just looking to lose a few extra pounds I don't want). Anyways...I read quite a few times that you're supposed to "burn off more calories then you take in...and to run for about 30 minutes everyday." Now that's where I get stumped. I run for almost an hour everyday and I burn about 530 calries doing it. So they're saying...I need to eat less then 530 calories to lose weight?? To me that sounds extremely unhealthy and unlogical. Also, If I only ran for 30 mintues like they suggest to.....that would burn about 300 calories. So you're supposed to eat less then 300 calories then???? That does not sound right at all Somebody PLEASE straighten this out for me!
Answers:
Actually, your basal metabolic rate (BMR) must be included in your calories burned.
Total calories burned = BMR + calories burned by exercise.
So if (hypothetically) your BMR is 1300 calories per day, then your calories burned would be 1300+530 for a total of 1830 calories per day. This means that you would need to eat less than 1830 calories per day in order to lose fat.
Here is a link to estimating your BMR, and a synopsis of the actions required for fat loss:
