i find weight loss a lil confusing!.!.!.see i burn 316 calories a day so i burn 2212 calories a week by walking 8 kilometers a day each time for 40 minutes and on some days i go swimming for 35 minutes!.!.!.!.now, what i dont get is how i can lose weight when im burning less than im eating!.!.!.!.i eat 1,200 calories a day and its working out fine but it seems too much !?!? is it!? how does this losing weight thing work!?

and if u need to knw i'm 5ft!. 2 and 120 lbs!.!.!.!.wanting to lose 20 lbs in a monthWww@Answer-Health@Com

That 316 calories a day that you say you burn is the number of calories you burn from activity!. Everyone also has what is called a basal metabolic rate, or base number of calories that you would burn were you to do nothing -- lay in bed -- all day!.

For someone of your weight and height, this can range from 1374 calories-1465 (assuming you are twenty years old)!. So, really you burn 12148!.5 calories weekly, and 1500 calories daily!. So, with this pattern, you will lose weight at a GOOD rate!.

Do not try, as you say you want to, to lose 20 pounds in a month!. That is dangerous!. If you stick with what you are doing right now, you will almost surely lose weight, thought it may be a little slow!. If you want to pick it up a little bit, and maybe get 2 pounds of a week, try decreasing calorie intake by another one hundred calories and exercising another hour daily!.

What you don't realize is that you naturally burn a lot more calories than just when you're working out!. Breathing burns calories, walking burns calories, brushing your teeth burns calories, putting your clothes on burns calories!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.you see my point!.

So if you're losing weight, its because you are definitely burning more calories than you're eating!.

Unless you're sitting down watching entertainment news for the better part of the day (you're obviously not) you're burning way more than 316 calories a day!. 316 is probably what you burn in exercise - and that sounds very cobnservative given your routine!. Unless I miss my guess, you're walking for 40 minutes at 12 Km/hour (which comes out to 7 mph here on Planet USA); with swimming I'd say you were burning more than 316 for exercise!. You also have to add in the cumulative effect of exercise, which raises metabolic rate and muscle strength, both significant factors of weight loss!.

As for 20lbs a month - that's unfortunately both very unrealistic and very risky!. Weight lost fast returns (with interest) at least as fast!. On the other hand (like your routine) a consistent regimen of exercise will peel off less-but-still-significant weight, and keep it off for some time!. 7lbs is probably a realistic figure!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
