What can a 70 year old woman do to put on weight?!


Question: What can a 70 year old woman do to put on weight!?
My mother is worried about being very thin!. She's 6 stone, and 5 foot 2 tall!. 70 years of age!. she asked me to ask you for tips on how to gain weight healthily!. For obvious reasons, she doesn't want to go to the gym!. She's a very active woman, always on the go, even babysitting a friend's child, 20 months old!. (When the child gets a bit too active for my mother, I play with her, or bring her to the park and play with her on the playground!.)
A lot of people have commented on how thin she's become, making her self-conscious!. I've tried to bolster her self esteem, which helped somewhat!.
Matters aren't helped in that our dietary requirements are opposite!. (Think Jack Spratt and his wife!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com

You really should consult her doctor but at her age, she is not only loosing fat but also muscle!. It is great that she is so active!. I would consider those build up drinks that are given to elderly people in hospitals or nursing homes!. Complan is on I know of!. I think a good varied healthy diet with proteins, veg and complex carbs should be good to start with!. Giving her high fat food is not a good idea!. Heart-healthy yet high fat foods such as nuts, peanut butter, flax seeds!.

She should make it a point to try to eat at least 2300 calories a day at this point, definitely not skipping any meals, and always have some snacks handy!. She should also avoid low fat foods at the moment, though keeping an eye on the unhealthy fats and cholesterol would be good!.

There are supplements she can get (like Boost)!. I would speak to your mum's pharmacist for some suggestions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just up her fat intake, try and get her to eat some junk food everyday, maybe try high fat yoghurts!?
