Elliptical Machines and Calories - Again?!

Question: Elliptical Machines and Calories - Again!?
Well, there seems to be alot of questions about the calories burned while on an elliptical machine!. It's obvious they over-estimate, but finding out the exact, or even a decent estimate in near impossible!.

I work out on the same machine in the same gym so I can use the Calorie count just as a progress indicator!. I am an ex-runner who cannot run anymore because of connective tissue problems and I push quite hard on the machine!. I started only around 400-500 cals (according to it) in 30 mins about 6 months ago!. I always push my next workout a bit further, even one or two calories in 30 mins!. I am now up to just over 1000cals/30 mins!. The machine is maxed out for difficulty now!. There is no doubt that my intensity is alot higher, and I do purposefully push into the anaerobic range for short periods!. Some sites say I'm doing 150 cals!.workout, some say 550!. I'm pushing this machine (nice machine too) and my body to their max!. How do I even try to figure out the real cals!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Unless you know at exactly what calorie range your maintenance is and you have a goal of X amount of fat loss in X amount of time, why is it that important!?

If you are trying to lose fat, you are spinning your wheels!. Resistance training is the only way to really lose it!. I think cardio is important for overall health and if you can't breath, well you cannot train intensely but you may be relying on it way too heavily!.

If your goal is to just get some exercise to keep your heart and lungs healthy and you are already realtively fit with no fat to lose, then 30 minutes of HIIT cardio is going to serve you best!.

If for a final option you just like the physical challenge, then the amount of calories it burns is insignificant!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
