Celery: negative calories?!

Question: Celery: negative calories!?
i heard that you burn more calories by eating celery than the celery contains!. is that true!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
No!. Negative calorie foods are a MYTH!. Well, really, they're just a severe bending of the truth!.

Your body operates on what is referred to as your BMR or Basal Metabolic Rate!. This is simply the number of calories your body uses to digest food, power your organs, and to regenerate muscle, skin, and bone cells!. You can find calculators online to approximately figure this number out for yourself, or you can have it measured by a doctor or nutritionist!.

Now, assume your BMR is 1800calories!. 1 Large stalk of celery (11"-12" long) is 10 calories (Check link)!. Eating this WILL give your body 10 calories of energy!. Though it might take more than 10cal of energy to digest it, that number is already calculated into your BMR!. You will likely have a hard time gaining weight eating foods like celery because you'd have to have 180 large stalks before you overcame even your BMR, not to mention any calories burned from movement, walking or exercise!.

Basically, no!. This is NOT a negative calorie food!. It's just so low calorie that your body can't intake the volume of it that you'd need to gain weight!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

An 8" stalk of celery has 6 calories!. The fiber-like stuff in the stalk is called cellulose!. It takes about 12 calories to break down the cellulose by the digestive system!.

6 Calories in the celery - 12 calories to breakdown cellulose = - 6!.00 calories net

The celery is some times referred to as having negative calories because of this net negative calorie effect

The net negative calorie effect makes celery an ideal snack to satiate hunger!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes, it's true!. b/c it takes so much chewing you actually burn more than you eat - but that really is completely beside the point!. celery doesn't have any nutrients (it's basically water) so it's not going to fill you up and hten you are going to want to eat again - which takes away from the burning more calories t han taking in!. i wouldn't take that too much into considerationWww@Answer-Health@Com

Yep, negative calories!. Actually, people talk about negative calories all the time!. They'll consume 200 calories then workout on an eliptical or treadmill until they've burned 400 calories !. !. !. negative 200 cals!.
