The best method is diet AND exercise. Not diet OR exercise. And by diet, I don't mean replacing meals with salads or shakes. Get informed about what you are eating. Many people find that just because they are eating a 'salad' doesn't mean they are cutting back on excess calories and fat. Some salads, due to the toppings and dressings, are loaded with fat, calories, sodium, etc.

In my humble opinion, most diets fail because people do not invest any time or energy in getting creative. Seek new diet options you can make yourself. Diet doesn't have to mean rice cakes and water. Seasoned fish, seasoned turkey, pasta dishes, rice dishes, etc. There's a way to go on a diet but still enjoy flavorful food that doesn't leave you feeling hungry.

And with exercise, set goals. Start small and work your way into more challenging activites. I had to go from jogging a little to jogging a lot to running a little before I could run a few miles a go several times a week.

Ultimately, you need a plan and the discipline to stick with it. There's no miracle weight loss out there. Despite what the commercials may claim, no product is going to give you the results you need. Only by working at weight loss through a healty diet and disciplined exercise plan will you lose weight, stay healthy, and improve your life in ways you never thought possible.
