Protein bars and shakes?!

Question:

Protein bars and shakes?

so i recently decided to take protein shakes and bars to help me with my weight gaining plan, i take these each morning, I take Body Frotress 100% whey protein powder vanilla flavor, and Pure Protein chewy chocolate chip protein bars. Do you think i can gain muscle from eating all this protien daily, and lifting weights every other day, i just started lifting weights so they are only 5 lbs dumbells, i do 3 sets of 20 reps in each arm, is this enough or should i do something different? Will these bars help me gain weight or fat on body areas, dont want to get fat. I really do need to gain weight so if you have any ideas i willing to try them. So about the protein when should i eat these, and how many times a day?thanks im 13 years old 65 in and 102 lbs

Answers:

A diet of protein supplements in the absence of real food won't help much with anything... most high protein bars are filled with sugar and a lot of chemicals. If you want to bulk up (get muscular) yes, you need to increase your protein intake (but people way over exagerate how much you need) but you also need to have a balanced, good diet. I'm a bodybuilder in my mid-40s and look 10 years younger than I am. I work my butt off at the gym lifting weights and doing cardiovascular exercise, eat a diet of whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables and EAT NO ANIMAL PRODUCTS at all. A GREAT protein supplement (which I do take daily) is a powder called Spirulina. It comes in a lot of flavors and makes delicious shakes (I add fresh blueberries and banana... and use ENRICHED soy milk instead of regular milk). Anyway... get your exercise, but it's true: NOTHING BEATS A BALANCED DIET OF GOOD FOOD. The fresher your food, the better. Packaged, pre-cooked and processed food is generally junk for your body. You're still very young and the sooner you start eating a GREAT diet the better. What you think is good food IS GOOD FOOD... fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, salad, WHOLE GRAINS. If it comes in a box or is frozen, it's probably junk. The LESS you pay for your food, the probably better it is for you (a fresh apple will cost less than a candy bar!). I personally eat no animal products (no meat, no chicken, no fish, no eggs, no dairy), and haven't since I was a teenager. YOU SHOULD DO SOME READING ABOUT HEALTHY DIET, not "lose weight" or "gain weight" diets, which are all insane, but good, healthy diet.
