Ensure Plus For Weight Gain????!

Question: Ensure Plus For Weight Gain!?!?!?!?
I am a recovering anorexic (17, 5'4 and 83 lbs)!. My mom wants me to drink 2 Ensure Plus a day to gain weight (she wants me to gain around 10lbs to keep me out of the hospital)!. This would be in addition to my regular meals (adding up around 1800 calories: i can never seem to eat more than that)!.

My only concern is, i am afraid they are bad for me!. They have some sugar (20g per 8oz)!. I am also afraid they will make me gain weight in the wrong places (like in the tummy and thighs)!. I am just afraid i will look bad when i gain this weight!. Will they make me gain uncontrollably!? Are these Ensure drinks ok, or will they just be bad for me!?

Thank youWww@Answer-Health@Com

Hi!
I am also a recovering anorexic and have had to drink ensure to gain weight!. I found it A LOT easier to drink supplements instead of forcing myself to eat more calories!.

If you are worried about gaining too much fat, go for the ensure HP (high protein) instead of ensure plus!. They don't have quite as much calories but they have more protein which will be good for replacing all the muscle tissue you have lost!. Then maybe throw in something else to keep your calories up!. I think they are like 260 calories each so even just a piece of fruit, and maybe some juice or milk could get your calories up to where you want it!.

I found the weight gain pretty evenly distributed when I used ensure!. Just eating a whole bunch made me bloated and caused me to gain a lot of weight right on my stomach!.

Hope that helps a bit! At first it seems like you are expanding at an alarming weight but its all just in your mind!. at 93 pounds you will still be skinny!. I know you know that!.!.!.but just keep telling yourself that whenever you are having eating disorder type thoughts!.

Hope that helps a bit!.!.!.!.I know its hard!. Hang in there!Www@Answer-Health@Com

So, what kind of weight do you want to gain!? I mean, what will the weight be!? Have you thought about that!? Do you know that there are only two kinds of weight you can gain!? It's going to be either muscle or fat!. Fat will not be good!. Of course you need some fat, but mostly you should want to gain muscle!. So start working out!. Join a gym!. Then you can drink your ensure and eat good food and you won't get fat, see!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well Ensure is a healthy way to slowly gain back your weight, but is you want to maintain or reduce the build up of fat try exercising, not the heavy type but light type for example walking around!.Those fat wont hurt as long they are good fat not those like fried food which will make you turn fat eat up more clean food!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You need to be very cautious when taking supplements to gain weight!.!.!. based on all I have read and researched you take your desired weight (yours appears to be 93lbs!.!.!.) and multiply it by 15 calories/lb of desired weight!. This will result in your total caloric intake for the day (yours would be 1395)!. Based on your intake I am guessing you will consume over 2000 calories which over time will result in 133 lb weight based on this calculation!.

You can also go to this website (http://www!.freedieting!.com/tools/calorie!.!.!. to get your ideal maintenance caloric intake!.

If you are going to be taking some type of a energy drink for weight gain I would use a lean body mass builder you can get at GNC!.com or DNSnutrition!.com!. This is what I use (http://www!.gnc!.com/product/index!.jsp!?pro!.!.!. as a supplement or meal replacement when I am working out!. You NEED to eat a balanced meal where you get enough fat/sugar/carbs/protein!. It is not necessarily your caloric intake but what your meals/snacks are comprised of!. You need to be careful of that rather than your caloric intake and when a balanced diet is combined with exercise you should be ok with regard to gaining weight and building muscle which will help you in the long run!. My only advice to you is this: don't fixate on your weight - there are a lot of variables which you should consider (i!.e!. - muscle weighs more than fat, what is your frame, how robust is your exercise routine, etc!.)!.

If you want to get your hands on a workout routine, just msg me and I can forward you one given to me by a trainer which works pretty well!. Take care,
