What should I expect going to a Gym?!

Question: What should I expect going to a Gym!?
OK!. Some things you should know: First, I am openly gay, but I don't conform with most gay stereotypes and I don't telegraph it to everyone!. I am going off to college in about 3 weeks and I plan on going to the gym!. The problem is: I have never been to a gym (either in school or at a club) before!. I work out at home on a semi-regular basis and want to continue once I get to college!. How should I act!? Should I change/shower there or go back to my room!? In general, what should I expect!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Each gym is going to have a different vibe, so I would recommend that you go there once just to check it out before going there to work out!.

At a college gym, you might notice fewer people showering just because they're so close to their own rooms!. It wouldn't be weird, just a little less common!.

A college gym might be more of social center than other gyms!. People might be more likely to be checking each other out because it's college, and that's what college kids do :) I mean, you'll have a room full of young people who like to work out; there's a lot to look at!.

Be prepared for limits on machines (especially the cardio machines)!. Often the treadmills and elliptical machines will have a 30-min!. maximum, and/or they might have a sign-up sheet for the machines, so you can reserve your time there!.

Also be prepared for "peak times" that happen in the evening!. Most people take their classes during the day, so everyone hits the gym after 3:00 or so!. If you want a little more peace, try to go during the day when most people are in class or much later at night when people are eating or studying!.

It also depends on the school and how much money the school generates!. I went to small public schools, so my gyms were always a bit crowded, and the machines were not always the best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm female and went to a gym with more men than women and the guys there were very helpful and friendly to me!. Never gave me any guff or pulled pick up lines on me either!. Don't go in expecting certain behavior or that's what you'll get!.

Do expect to meet with a trainer and have instruction on the equipment available!. Get a schedule of classes, etc that may be available and time limits on some machines if there's few machines and many waiting!. Other than that expect to have fun working out and make a few new good friends!.

As far as showering and changing there, do what you feel comfortable with!. The gym I went to had changing booths with doors on!. Showers were private showers but had to go back to booth to dress!. Those areas are not usually used by both gender at same time, each has their own!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well the gym that i go to is pretty amazing!. Planet Fitness is a Judge free zone!. No one is not making fun of you what you look like or anything!. There are a lot of people who would help you get in shape and make you feel comfortable!. And i change in the locker rooms and take a shower!. They usually and should have a room where you can change and shower where no one is looking!. Just be yourself and you will be fine!. Dont worry!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
