Vessel bursting during a work out?!

Question:

Vessel bursting during a work out?

Hi, so a few days ago I was working my upper body and during standing biceps curls this red mark appeared on my left bicep, right in the middle. It didn't hurt or anything, so I didn't think much of it, but it wasn't going away and then yesterday after another arm work-out it got more red so I think that one of the little vessels bursted, but I never heard of such a thing. Is that possible? What to do to get rid of it? How long to wait before starting to work out again? etc... Thanks

Answers:

Yes, sounds like a vessel burst, sometimes they sting a little but usually painless. Blood pressure goes way up as you exert the muscles. Make sure you are doing the exercises correctly. Most gyms have a person to train you to do the exercises. Check your blood pressure. Make sure you are eating right and taking your vitamins. Next, look at any and all medications and supplements you are taking, is this a side effect of anything? Are you taking too much of something that contains aspirin? Or something that thins blood or affects the vessels?
I don't think anything but time will get rid of the mark, unless you want to try a medical leech--yuck! Warmth might help, but only after it has a couple of days to seal up and start healing. It should turn colors like a bruise and fade away. If it stays red and gets worse, the vessel is still leaking-see a doctor.
Next time you go to your doctor, be sure to talk to him about this. If you haven't been to the doctor in more than a year, make an appointment and get a check-up. Please.
Live well and do good!
