You can take up yoga which offers very effective poses to assist in improving your balance--and all around health!.

You can buy yoga DVDs focusing specifically on the balancing poses!.

However, I highly recommend "Wii Fit", a video game played on the Wii gaming console!. This game consists of a series of exercises, including yoga, balancing, strength training, calestenic, aerobics, etc!. The game is played with a balance board that tracks your movements, providing instant feedback on your performance, while also keeping track of your progress!.

This board is extremely sensitive, and while performing the balancing poses, the game provides you with a specific radius you have to work to remain with in, and actually shows you visually how much you are leaning to one side or the other, or favoring one foot or the other so you can correct your balance accordingly--not easy to acheive!

I believe this method could prove far more effective because it takes the "guesswork" out of how well you are doing!. You actually SEE how well you are balancing while you performing the poses!. As your balance improves, additional, increasingly more difficult poses are unlocked for you so you can continue to progress in attaining your balancing goals!.

Hope this helps!. Best of luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

you could practice balancing at home easily- standing in place and lifting one knee up for a few seconds, then eventually bring your leg forward!. do this to the side and to the back, too!. if you want to balance on something, you could use a wood block and do some balancing exercises on that!. i used to do this practice in gymnastics!.
