What gum is safe to chew?!

Question:

What gum is safe to chew?

I just realized my favorite "gum in a cup" has aspartame in it. What mint gum is safe to chew?

Answers:

Try looking in a health-food store for gum made with Xylitol, a natural sweetner made from birch trees or corn. It's supposed to actually make it harder for plaque to stick to your teeth. A bunch of big gum brands have Xylitol in the gum and make sure you see it on the package, but when reading the package there is also aspartame. As far as I know, no major gum brands make gum with Xylitol and no aspartame, but there are smaller companies that do. The Melaleuca company does make gum like this. If you can't get ahold of any though, get gum with sugar in it! It's still better than aspartame. I checked out an aspartame company website once and they went up and down about how ridiculous it was to say that aspartame is unhealthy, but I heard once airplane pilots are not allowed to chew aspartame gum because they could get seizures (I don't know 100% if that is true). I did know a girl who had a bad seizure though, her parents heard some banging in her room and came in, and they thought she was dying. Her seizure was linked to drinking some Diet Pepsi (which contains aspartame) ... Apparently diet pop becomes especially dangerous after its been in the sun but this is starting to get off topic...
The Melaleuca brand carries two flavours: peppermint and spearmint. And I think it costs around 3 dollars a package (which contains 24 pieces)

P.S. I have never experienced anything close to diarhea after chewwing xylitol gum.
