I need some tips to get in shape?

I am a 48 year old female. I am 5'3" tall and weigh 124 lbs. I wouldn't mind losing 5 lbs., but I'm not obsessed with it. What I would really like to do is get in shape. I have noticed I seem to be getting flabby. My arms are lose, my legs aren't as firm as they used to be and my butt is really drooping. I would like some advice on getting in shape and firming up. What would be best weights, cardio....? I have never been a real athletic or physical person, so it will have to be something pretty simple. I am fairly strong though, just from physical labor around the house and yard. Thanks!

You will definitely need some weight training. As people get older, there is going to be a general decline in muscle tissue. Luckily, with the proper training, you can help prevent this, and still build some healthy lean tissue in the process. You will want to eat a clean diet of complete proteins, tons of veggies, fruit, and a moderate amount of carbs. Break your total daily caloric intake into 6 equal meals. Eat upon waking. Eat close to bed. You don't want to starve your body any longer than necessary and it will help regulate your metabolism at all times. You don't need to spend 2-3 in the gym in one sitting, but I do recommend 10 hours/week of directed physical activity for body transformation goals (don't forget to include some aerobic activity). Good luck and don't be afraid to ask guys in the weight room for pointers, we really don't mind.
