Question: Why is actual jogging way more exhausting than those stationary cardio machines
I try jogging outside and it's so exhausting (out of breath) compared to indoor cardio machines like indoor cycling, elliptical, etc!. Why!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

It all has to do with the impact of your legs and feet!. Not to mention that there is also more movement of body parts in actual jogging!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

When you are jogging on a treadmill, the belt is moving as you run along on it making it easier on your muscles than jogging outside on the pavement!. Treadmill is great cardiovascularly!. When you're outside, you have to use more of your muscle which needs more oxygen for them to perform!. Your legs have your biggest muscles therefore it needs more oxygen to circulate through your body!. So it is great all around but more demanding!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You have to control your pace, & don't have a machine to set it for you!.

There are usually different ground elevations, textures, etc!.

You tend to make different strides outside (because you can only stride so far on a machine)

You tend to Go For It!! On a machine you just try to stay controlled, take your time or not push yourself as far-you aren't reaching or running towards anything!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Machines encourage you move the same way each time- same pattern, same speed, same everything!. No wind resistance, no changes to the path, no paying attention, no thinking or problem solving, no curbs, no nothing!.!.!. just moving the same muscles in the same pattern over and over and over and over!.!.!.

It turns out that this is not really all that great for your overall conditioning!. You get a better workout when it involves more muscles, more movements, more thinking!.

In the real world you deal with traffic, other people, wind, weather, balance, course changes and adjustments, dodging other people or bikes, varying your pace, going up or down hills, changing surfaces, etc!.

As you have seen, this takes a lot more out of you- and gives you a lot of benefit- with almost no cost!Www@Answer-Health@Com

you have to move your body weight when running outside but on the treadmill its doing it for you!. Build your stamina up outside by starting with interval running, short bursts of running then a walk and keep increasing the running times each day you go out!. Also find a hill and run up it and walk down it, keep repeating it then next time you run on flat it will seem easierWww@Answer-Health@Com

I wondered that when I do it!. But I think its because of the impact!. Like a treadmill it absorbs your impact alittle!. But thats mabye because my treadmill is alittle old!.

But like the previous answer said, ya its probably to the pollution!.

But I also thought of the fact is that when we jog, we jog faster than we jog on the treadmill, or mabye thats just me!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Usually when you jog outdoors, it involves plenty of uphill or downhill!. Going at a steady rate on flat ground is very different!. It might also be that when you're outdoors, you're exposed to more car exhaust which makes it more difficult to breathe!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My guess (and this is just a guess), is that when you're on an indoor machine, you're in an environment that is climate controlled, so you are better able to stay hydrated because you sweat less!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You just sit you bottom on the bicycle and peddle, and you jog outside you work your whole body!. Or maybe thats just me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think it could be becuase the floor has like slopes and stuff but in a gym you can control how much you slope it!.
