If i put a pillow under my neck and head, would it hurt to do sit ups and crunch!

If i put a pillow under my neck and head, would it hurt to do sit ups and crunches on the floor?
since everytime i try to do crunches n sit ups on the floor i put a pillow under my neck n head. it feels better. is it the same effect of doing crunches n sit ups on the floor w/ a pillow

My guess would probably be no. See, you wouldn't be getting the same range of motion. On the other hand, you are saving your head.
Do you just do your stuff on the floor or do you have a mat?
For effectiveness, again guessing, I'd say get a good mat instead. But, I have yet to find a decent one that protects my spine and head well from the hardwood floors so do tell me if you find one.:)
