Answers:

I lost 25 pounds two years ago and have kept it off with no problems.

It boiled down to eating less and moving more.

I needed a wake-up call about the crap I was eating on a daily basis.

I was a complete junk food junkie but honestly didn't realize it.

I joined an online nutrition website that offered food diary software. Once I logged my first day's worth of food, a light bulb went off over my head. OH. DUH. I was eating way too many calories, and way too many of those calories were from FAT.

I also didn't have a regular, reasonable execise routine. (I had a tendency to exercise hard one day, then eat more that day because "I had earned it", and then feel rotten and sore the next day).

So I started logging my food every day, using the calorie allotment given to me by the software. I began walking every day for about 30 minutes.

The weight came off slowly. About 15 pounds in the first two months, but then the rest came off more at a rate of about a pound a week.

The other good thing about the software was that I could see my protein, carb, and fat ratios, and also track things like sodium, sugar, and fiber.

You are young, and that is a huge advantage (I am over twice your age!). Your metabolism is on your side. It should be very do-able to lose 40 pounds before December, if you do it the healthy way. Be kind to your body, and be smart, and it will serve you well.

I am putting two links below. The first is the website I used. You can either buy their software, or join their website and use their online tools -- either way, it is a bargain if you compare the price to something like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig.

However, if money's tight, there is a free website that I have heard really good things about that offers a similar food diary. That is the second link.

Good luck! You can lose the weight -- it really does boil down to -- just DOING it.
