Work out tips?!

Question:

Work out tips?

I just got a gym membership, but can't really afford the personal trainer just yet. I am 5'3" and about 240 - but I am in fairly ok shape. I wont pass out after walking on a treadmill for 30 minutes or anything. Past times when I have gone to the gym I do cardio and a little weights but nothing seemed to give me results. Could anyone maybe give me some pointers on what to do in the gym that will give me a good workout and help me lose weight. (I am working on getting the eating right part as well!)

Answers:

At this point in the process, diet is going to have a lot more to do with your weight loss than exercise.

Walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes is at most good for 200 calories. Given that a pound of fat contains 3500 calories, that only amounts to a pound or two a month. Lifting doesn't burn a lot of calories and won't have any impact short term because it takes time to build up muscle mass.

That said, get thee to the gym and put the time in to get in better shape. Once you've got your eating in order, and are in good enough shape to ride, run, or elliptical for a couple hours at a time, you can really accelerate the process.
