Any Sauna tips?!
Question:
Any Sauna tips?
I want to go to the sauna in my gym, but it just looks like a hot box. Is that what it is, just a hot box to sit in? So any tips for the sauna? What do I wear, do I have to bring in a towel? That kind of thing.
Answers:
Saunas are useful in cleaning the pores and cleansing the body. It is polite to bring a towel to the sauna. If you don't want to wrap it around yourself, you can drap it over yourself.
Yes, a sauna is a hot box. Some people will put water on the stones in the sauna to make the room more humid and increase the effects of the high temperature. A true sauna is very hot and dry. When you add the water, you are creating a steam room. It's much more difficult to breath in a steam room and you will feel the heat much more in a steam room.
Some tips:
- Start out with a "lower" temperature if possible. 160 degrees is lower in a sauna. 220 degrees is very hot. You can work your way up to the higher temperatures if you want to.
- Take off every bit of metal including earrings, eyeglasses, and rings. They'll burn you otherwise.
- Stay in the sauna no more than 15 minutes at a time.
- For a very effective cleansing, take a cool shower. Enter the sauna wet. Stay in sauna 15 minutes. Take a cool shower. Repeat until you have been in the sauna 3 times.
- Be sure to drink plenty of water before and after being in a sauna. You're going to sweat a lot.
A sauna should be relaxing and comfortable. You will feel relaxed and clean after a sauna. If it gets uncomfortable, take a short break and cool down. Enjoy!
