Am I really obese? Could the BMI calculator be invalid?!


Question: Am I really obese!? Could the BMI calculator be invalid!?
I just did a BMI thing!. And it said I am obese!. If obese means you are ridiculously fat then that may be inaccurate!. I'm about 6'3 and I don't feel that fat!. I weigh 258!.1 lbs btw!. I am 15!. Is it possible that the BMI calculator is invalid!?

I am not sure that I would call you obese, but you are deffinately overweight!. BMI isnt the best thing to use to check your weight!. If you are obese, you would be barely obese, meaning if you lost about 10 pounds, you wouldn't be obese!. I am that way, too!. I am 5'4" 190 pounds, and 13!. Your ideal weight is around 190 pounds if you have a small bone structure, 200 is you have a medium, and around 210-215 if you have a large bone structure!. So, being that you are quite tall, I assume you have a large bone structure, so if you lost about 40 pounds, you would be good :] I have to lose about the same ammount too, so maybe if you wanted to talk or anything, you can email me at music_lover1441@yahoo!.com :]Www@Answer-Health@Com

Body mass index can be off somewhat!. It just measures the expected weight for your height!. No doubt you are well above the normal weight, but if you are very muscular, then that will do it too!.

If not, then you probably are obese!. Obese doesn't mean ridiculously fat, in my opinion!. I think it just means you are well above the point at which you could still be healthy!. Morbidly obese is ridiculously fat!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Previous answerers are right: the BMI calculation does not take into consideration how muscular you are or bone density which makes it difficult to get a precise reading!. If you don't feel fat, then you probably aren't (and you're quite tall, too)!. At your age, loose skin isn't an issue when you lose weight as since you're so young there is still heaps of elasticity left so it'll all spring back!. Plus it needs to be pretty drastic weight loss for excess skin to be a problem, anyway!. As for diet, healthy food and regular exercise will do it!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

258 for 6"3 is on the heavy side, however the BMI doesn't take into consideration the muscle tone and bone density!.!.!.

Cardiovascular work out is the best way to work out to loose fat and strengthen muscle at the same time!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

its not like if you're 1 lb over the obesity line on a BMI its going to mean anything!. if you want to lose weight work hard at it!. if its not worth your time, stop getting your BMI checked, you're just going to get depressedWww@Answer-Health@Com

I suggest you begin to eat healtier and begin an exercise routine!.
