How many pounds do you think I can lose in 7 weeks?

starting this Tuesday I'm going to the gym, and I would like to know how much weight you think I can lose. At the moment I am 5'3, and weigh about 138; it would be great if I dropped to AT LEAST 120 (hopefully a little less). I sort of have a big butt; is it possible to lose it (or at least reduce its size) within the amount of time I have? I intend on of course consuming a fair about of calories (an amount that I can burn off everyday). Per week I could lose about 2-3 pounds, correct? Meaning that towards the end of the summer I would have lost about 14-21 pounds. Is that possible?


Answers:

It's possible to lose about ten pounds the first week, but oftentimes that's just water! It'll come back. About 2-3 lbs a week is standard and healthy. Remember, weight loss is a gradual thing, and it requires a lifetime commitment to maintain.

As for the "plateau" that can be overcome, but once your body fat percentage is in the single or low double digits, what would be the point? I'd say something around the mid to top "desireable" fat percentage is best. It makes you look really good!

Lift weights at least three times a week, and be sure to get in some cardio. If you work out a lot (like I do - six days a week cardio AND lifting,) then you'll not want to cut your calories too much... just make sure you're getting all your vitamins.
