Is a open heart bypass surgery really dangerous?!

Question:

Is a open heart bypass surgery really dangerous?

Someone in my family will be undergoing on in a couple days, im just wondering if its really dangerous or are they successful most of the time?

Answers:

Any cardiovascular surgery IS dangerous! No matter how slight the procedure is. I had a regular Angiogram done four years ago, it's a procedure done while the patient is awake. I went into V-Tach and Coded on the table. My dad had the procedure done 18 years ago and he didn't make it......I realise a lot of Cardiologists will tell you that the procedures carry some risk, But they need to be more Honest with the patient and the family as how serious ANY heart procedure is...For that matter ANY surgery carries, risk but the heart and brain are the most complicated of all.....I wish your family member the very best. Make certain you really know who is doing the surgery and what backups they have in place in case they need it....God Bless
