How do I tone up my body and lose weight for varisty basketball?

I am thinking about joing a varisty basketball team, for social and exercise. I do have asthma, serious one and I am not that good and didnt make any points at all, because I am sub. Help, please? Im 15, 5 ' 4 and not sure about my weight now, gaining or losing, Im not friends with the bathroom scale

To tone you must have muscle. So hit the weights. And don't be a wuss and grab the little pink 2.5 lbs dumbbells. If you want to look lean and sexy, you gotta use some heavier weights. Doesn't matter that you are a girl. You won't get "huge, muscular arms." And if you do start heading that direction, you'll have plenty of time to catch it. Even males that are genetically designed for building muscle can usually only gain .5 to 1 lb a week if they are doing everything right. So trust me, you will be safe...and probably impress some guys along the way. Do squats, deadlifts, triceps extensions, bench presses, pullups, rows and maybe some bicep curls (try to do the pullups though). Good luck.
