Is this right, if not, what would be?!


Question: Is this right, if not, what would be!?
I am 5' 4" and weight 131, but my measurements are 32D 22 34!.!.!. and i wear a size 6 sometimes 4!. The thing is I was told by my doctor to do 30 minutes of exercise a day for a condition I have!. I'm really skinny except I carry weight on my hips and thighs!.

What I'm confused about is the BMI calculator says weight from 108-144 is normal, and I'm towards the high side of that!. Is being all the way down to about 110 actually going to be healthy!? (i dont want to weigh that little just dont exactly understand why the BMI has that much variance)

Oh and this may help!.!.!. I do have a lot of muscle since I used to be a competitive figure skater growing up and through out highschool!. Anyway any explanations why this occurs would be great!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just to show you how much variation there is in body types, I'm your height, wear the same sizes as you, and my weight is 115!. If I weighed 110 I'd be a stick, and at 131 I'd be hugely overweight!. My measurements are different, too -- 34B,25,36!. I'm sure your extra weight is due to muscle mass, which will show up as weight even with smaller body measurements!. Also, if you have a lot of muscle, you'll also have heavier bone structure!. Your substantial chest measurement doesn't add that much weight since it's mostly fat and other soft tissue!.

What I'm trying to say is, don't put a lot of importance in the BMI!. That's why there's such a broad range of "normal!." If you can get a fat percentage measurement, that's a better value to go by!. Forget the scales!. If your bones start sticking out and you look too thin, you're too thin!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

BMI s are faulty , almost half of the NBA players are considered overweight by this standard!. Some even , obese!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

that weight seems right for your height!. well you should get rid of the extra weight and try to tone it for yourself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Since you're so athletic and muscular I don't think 110 would be a good weight for you at your height, but I could see you getting down to 125!. You sound like you just have a figure skater's body, so you can do jumps!. But muscle can go to fat if it's not being used enough--look at the former football players who have gone a bit pudgy!. Did your doctor suggest that you lose weight or is the exercise more for cardio, or a bit of both!?

The wide BMI range has to do with frame--small boned, big boned, etc!. because even at 5'4" we still come in different "sizes"!.

You could do some chair push-ups along with your cardio to tone your arms--I wouldn't want you to bulk up there but toning may be called for!. Do you swim, or walk for half an hour, or what!? Walking is great cardio but it doesn't tone the upper half!. Pilates, esp!. the ones that deal with upper body--thread the needle, planks, etc!.--may be fun for you!. A combination of cardio and pilates is really good for you and will burn calories effectively, if you decide you want to lose a few pounds!. And if you're not happy with your thighs, wall squats with 1 or 2 balls will make those puppies BURN--one behind the small of your back, and a smaller ball between your knees!. Slide down slowly until you're in a near-sit position, then hold the position for a ten count, then rise slowly!.

I've had to exercise to be able to take less hypertension medication!. The things above have helped me a lot and were put together for me by a really great trainer, so I'm just suggesting!.

Are you doing the same exercise every day, and is it getting boring!?

the problem with a bmi calculator is that it can not factor in bone density or muscle mass, both weigh more than fat so don't worry a bit hun!. 30 min a day of exercise is great for fat or skinny people, its good for you heart! keep it up and be proud of your body don't go down to 110, then you'll probably loose muscle!. it is possible to loose muscle by too much cardio!.

Redhead (I'm also a redhead), I have the same body type as you do!. If you wear a 4 or 6, you are probably mostly muscle!. Throw the *&^%$ing BMI scale away! it doesn't account for muscle!. Exercise and weight train and you will proportioned and look great!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

BMI has such a wide range because everyone's body is different!. 130 is prolly a healthy weight for you!. Just because 110 may be a healthy for some people your height, doesn't mean that it's healthy for you!. It varies based on body type, bone density and muscle mass!. Remember muscle weighs more than fat!. Lean body mass is healthy and that's prolly why you're weight is at the high end!. BMI cannot adapt to body types!. If you got down to 110, you would have to lose a lot of muscle which would make you less healthy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
