I have high Cholesterol (210) what do i do about it?!

Question: I have high Cholesterol (210) what do i do about it!?
I went to the doctor today and he said i have high cholesterol but he did not really tell me how to fix it!. I am 18 a vegetarian and a smoker and none of that is going to change so please don't suggest quitting smoking (it wont happen till i get pregnant) or eating meat (I do not eat red meat poultry *including eggs* or fish)

Does anyone know how to go about doing this!? I have not exercised much since i tore my ACL in '06 Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Exercise makes a difference, especially with HDL!. The higher you can get your HDL the lower the overall cholesterol becomes!.
As a male my HDL was 44 despite daily exercise!.
I increased my HDL and dropped my overall cholesterol (173) by taking 1000 mg!. of straight Niacin (500 mg twice daily)!.
I have the doctors blessing however, make sure you do that!.
Eating fish like salmon and sardines helps too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are 18 and have high cholesterol (and 210 is high) you either need to become more proactive and/or get another doctor!. Don't start by saying you won't quit smoking!. If you can't do it now, you won't be able to do it when you get pregnant!. And smoking helps elevate cholesterol!.
Exercise helps a lot - and there are exercises you can do, even with an injured ACL!.
Mostly, you need to find out whether your cholesterol is acquired or genetic!. If it's genetic, changes in your lifestyle won't make a lot of different, but you will have to start a regime of statins!. Your doctor can determine which is the best!.
If your cholesterol is acquired, you can do a lot to lower it by keeping your weight down, exercising, watching the saturated fats and transfatty acids in your diet, and your salt consumption!.
But for a doctor to tell you you have high cholesterol and not tell you what to do about it is verging on malpractise!. Maybe you need to go back to him and ask for specific directions, or maybe you need to find a new doctor!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

increase your daily fiber intake to the recommended 30 grams daily!. increase the intake of high fiber complex carbs like whole oatmeal, beans, lentils and whole grains!. also make sure to consume a variety of veggies and fruits all of which contain various types of fiber!. this will help to decrease your total cholesterol value!. decreasing the saturated fat intake and increasing the unsaturated fat intake will improve your HDL:LDL ratio!. which is actually more important than the total cholesterolWww@Answer-Health@Com

Exercising is a good way to keep it down!. Also try eating more stuff like garlic, beans, oatmeal!. You could also go back to your doc and ask for medication since there is medication out there that can help lower it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

call or go to your doctor that is why you pay him to inform you in your health, he has the obligation to help you lower you cholesterol!. so trust me and call him or go back there and order him to help you through thisWww@Answer-Health@Com
