Is it better to workout 3 days a week or 5-6 days a week? or 4?!


Question:

Is it better to workout 3 days a week or 5-6 days a week? or 4?

Should i do a split? if so please give me one. Or should i do one body part a day? how many days of rest should i get? please help


Answers:

It really depends on several factors such as an individual's metabolism, personal goals, and duration in the gym.

If you are naturally thin and have a hard time putting on weight/muscle then a 3 day split with would be best to increase lean muscle. For someone, in this category lifting heavy (6-8 reps per set) using about 6-9 sets a body part.
Example routine: Mon: Chest/Tri's Wed: Back/Bi's Fri:Legs/Shoulders

However, if you have a normal metabolism a 5 day split would be good. Using 8-12 reps a set with about a minute or 2 rest between sets. You could also add cardio 2-3 times a week for at least 30 min a session during the week.
Example Routine:
Mon: Legs Tues: Chest Wed: Back Thurs: Shoulders Fri: Arms

You should allow yourself at least 2 days of rest a week. It's been my experience that any rest less than this fatigues me and I never fully recover from my workouts. I like to leave my weekends free as well. It gives me time to enjoy myself and look forward to my next workout.
