Gastric Bypass...Are They Just Giving These Away Now?!

Question: Gastric Bypass!.!.!.Are They Just Giving These Away Now!?
I'm an assistant manager at GNC and we seem to have a lot of customers who are about to or already have had a gastric bypass!. These people aren't even 300lbs!. I thought that gastric bypass surgery was only for people who were morbidly obese!.!.!.you know, the people who have an excuse when you say "Just go for a walk" because they can barely stand!? I just saw someone's Youtube journal where she was only 228lbs and got the surgery done! I was 250lbs when I started exercising and eating right!.!.!.I got in good enough shape to join the Marine Corps (I am now a disabled vet, which is why I work at GNC, if anyone is curious)!. I never, ever felt that my weight warranted surgery!. I ate too much and didn't do anything, so I lost weight by doing the opposite!.

When did it change that gastric bypass surgery was just handed out like candy to people who don't actually need it!? These people can still go outside for a walk, and certainly have control over how much they eat!. Do insurance companies cover this surgery, or is it only if the patient is morbidly obese!?

I'm not trying to be a douche, I'm just honestly surprised that there are doctors who are doing a surgery for people who obviously don't need it, and that so many people are jumping on the bandwagon!. If you are a gastric bypass patient, I would like to know how much you weighed and any legit reasons you couldn't do any form of exercise!. I would also like to know if you've gained the weight back, because I hear this is a common side effect since the patients never learn how to restrain themselves!.

I feel like a jerk asking this but I'm not sure how else to put it and I am genuinely curious!. I'm not here to judge, but I do have questions I would like answered!.!.!.please don't judge me based on any poor wording!. Thanks!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Nope but they are profiting - and that is what all those "weight centers" are all about PROFIT!. I have yet to meet a Dr who is supportive and caring about a person with weight issues -they all push for chemicals or radical surgery because it is more profitable than the person exercising and changing their diet!. Unless a Dr gets commissioned on a salad they won't recommend it!. Sorry but they are not "handing out gastric bypass" they are shoving it on an unsuspecting and desperate public!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i guess they are!. When my father got his appendix out, the doctors gave him a gastric bypass, and he was alot thinner whenhe came homeWww@Answer-Health@Com

It almost seems like it, doesn't it!? I've noticed the increase too!. I would think that a proper diet along with some sort of exercise would be the easier and less dangerous route, but people are in it for a quick fix!. They think that it's a miracle cure to being overweight!.
On a similar note; I've seen so many stories of how people lost weight and being lauded for it!. I would like to see stories of how people first put the weight on, it would be eye opening!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Being morbidly obese is more than just weight, its the BMI as well!. You should know this if you are working at GNC!. However, I have not have the surgery, but i know ppl that have!. The kicker is that im bigger than they werre, but I knew eating right and working out was the best way to go!. They were just lazy and didnt want to work for it!. So they make up some other issue that their weight is causing to get the surgery!. Some ppl do need it yes, but unfortunately most insurance companies will cover it if there is another medical reason to do it!. Like say you are over weight and have acid reflux or HBP or cholesterol!. But i think as a whole, most that get it are just lazy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

What is wrong with you people!? You think everyone who has had a gastric bypass is lazy and has never tried to lose weight!?!?!? Let me guess, you are all thin!. You've never known what it's like to be made fun of, to feel sub-human because you don't look like everyone else!.

I battled with my weight from the age of 11!. When I hit puberty, I gained weight!. I excercised, I ate right but still I gained!. When I went to college, I lost 30 pounds!. After the age of 20, I steadily gained!. When I had my son, I gained!. I walked, I ate right, I drank lots of water!. Nothing!. I did Weight Watchers for TWO years and lost and gained the same 20 pounds over and over and over!.

I had my gastric bypass in oct 2007!. I had to QUALIFY for the surgery!. it wasn't handed to me!. I had many tests to make sure I could do this!. I am 5'10!. I weighed 298 the day of my surgery!. 9 1/2 months later, I weight 178 pounds!. That a 120 pound weight loss!. It's not been easy!. I have cried!. I have hurt!. BUT I can play with my son!. I can be around people without feeling thier stares and hearing thier snickers!. I look like everyone else!. I've lowered my risk of heart attack and stroke!. I will live to see my grandchildren!. I have learned to eat correctly!. I see a nutritionist once a month and go to a Gastric Bypass support group!. This is not required of me but something I do to make sure that I am doing all I can to be healthy and STAY healthy!. I AM NOT LAZY

It seems like no matter what overweight people do to try and better themselves there is always someone out there saying you aren't good enough!.

Our insurance covered my surgery 100%!. Since we our military and our doctor is military, they don't get paid anymore wether they perform the surgery or not!. They don't get a bonus for rearranging people's insides!. My surgeon calls me weekly to check my progress!. He does care about me!. I am not a number to him!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you may not be trying to be a douchebag, simply because it is effortless for you!. people have gastric bypass partly based on comorbidities and to prevent health problems caused by morbid obesity!. You don't have to be 300 lbs to be morbidly obese, you should probably do some research on the subject before coming on here and trying to act like you are a better person for losing weight withoug surgery, you don't know other peoples history and what they have gone through!.
you should feel like a jerk
bring on the thumbs down, I really don't care, the truth hurts Www@Answer-Health@Com
