People who claim benefits?!

Question:

People who claim benefits?

Who else gets so annoyed at the amount of free 'stuff' available to those on benefits? 2 members of my family are on benefits one because of low income (cos he's too lazy to get a full time job, no other way about it) and one who is ill, fair enough. I am not having a go at the people its the system that seems duff. They get free prescripions, free fruit and veg, tax reduction, gym memberships, loft insulation!!!!!!!!!!!! the list goes on and on. Me and my husband both work hard and get nothing free. It really p**ses me off!
I know some people genuinly cant work but there ar those out there who have no need to work because everything is handed on a plate. How do other countries work? I dont think America are so soft.

Hey i have every sympathy for people who are in genuine need, i mentioned that i am aware plenty of people are claiming benefits and are entitled too them, my brother is one of them. I'm talking about people who are very capable of working and scam the government.

Hiya hun,
I've been on both sides of this. When I had my daughter in 2002, I was homeless and on benefits. Everything was so easy. I had enough money to shop at Sainsburys, and pay for two adults to smoke, as well as paying my gas and electric and have money left over for a night out now and then. My rent was paid, when I got a flat. My council tax was paid, got milk tokens for my daughters boxed milk.
I started work in 2004 and I got a private house, which had to be paid for myself, and everything got complicated.

Now, we have two children, my husband works a 40 hr week, earns £17,000 which isn't much with rent and bills. I recently enquired about going to college. I went to my interview and the tutor told me it was a 15 1/2 hr week course, but she then admitted than it should be at least 20 hrs a week in college, but people on benefits can't go to college more than 16 hrs or they lose money, so we lose out because of others. I applied for help with the course fees, they rejected me, which meant I had to find £1300 to go to college. Tax credits won't pay for childcare, so I can't go to college. I wanted to train to be a teacher, they are calling out for them, yet they won't help a parent do it.
I don't work because there's no point, we wouldn't be any better off.

Some people can't help but to claim benefits, and I know that better than most, but there's others that can work and choose not too. We miss out.
