Ignore the idiots who say it is perfect or it is completely bad!. They don't know what they are talking about!.

First of all, a 'healthy' range of BMI would depend on age, gender and height and weight, so it depends on what you are in each of these categories!.

Secondly, it doesn't matter anyway because the BMI is innaccurate and dangerously misleading!. It doesn't take into account body type (somatotype), ethnic differences, muscle mass, etc etc, and it was compiled on a very small sample of people in the 70's!. Its ridiculous and doesn't work!. At best it is just a rough guess!.

For example, I'm 6"2, male, and work out a lot so have significant muscle mass!. My body fat levels are at 16%, (a healthy range), and I am fit and healthy!. Yet because of my muscle, I weigh a lot more so my BMI says I'm clinically obese!. I dont think so!

A true measure of how fat or healthy you are is a body fat measurement!. Any gym/GP surgery or machine from Argos can give you this!. It works by essentially just telling you how much fat you have on your body, it doesn't go on weight!. And as long as you are within the healthy range for your gender and age, then you are fine!. Regardless of how you think you look or what your body shape is!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The normal range of BMI's are between 20 and 25!. The "ideal" figure is 22!. But these values do depend on your actual body makeup!. Some people are naturally large, or small, so the ideal figure given is not right for everyone!. Your BMI is only just under the normal, so I reckon it is fine :)

Hope this helps!.

thats within "healthy" rage, but bmi only uses heit and weight, and completely disregards muscle mass and bone structure, so I wouldnt use it to measure how fit you are!.!.!.doctors really only use it because they need some form of quick measurement to define obesity!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Depending on what material you refer to, anywhere between 18-25 is now considered normal range, although as Dr Frank says, this BMI is purely measured from a height/weight point of view, it does not take into account other factors!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Anything within the normal range is fine 18!.5 to 24!.9!. remember though that BMI and it's range is a man made set of values, rather than absolute norm!. It does not necessarily signify good health!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
