Recommmended weights to lift?!

Recommmended weights to lift?
What would you recommended to how to calculate the recommended weights to lift? Should I try and lift my own weight? For your information I am 5 feet 9 inches and weigh 160 lbs. I want to know because I am starting to do weight squats and don't want to injure myself.

I want to get that muscular yet skinny look. I dont want to be looking like a monster =P. Should I do weights with more reps or more weights and less reps?

I would recommend using reps to calculate the amount of weight to lift. For example if you want to get bigger select a weight you can lift 4 to 7 times. If you want to get more definition select a weight you can lift 8 to 12 times.
