When I worked out,, I ate 2 to 2!.5grams of protein per pound of body weight to gain muscle!.!.!. some people even go to 3 to 4 grams of protien per pound of bodyweight when they are on steroids!.!.!. So if I was 200 pounds I would consume 350-400 grams per day!.!. Drink plenty of water and take a good multi vitamin!.
And like you said dont take it all from red meat,,, even if its lean because it does have a higher fat content than chicken or turkey!.
If you dont work out!.!.the minimum you want to have is !.08 grams per pound of body weight!.!.!.
