Question: How can I convince my husband that he doesn't have to drink protein shakes to lose weight!?
Every time my husband tries to diet he gets on high protein diets and is always drinking the protein shakes!. The problem with this is that protein powder is very expensive and we are on a budget!. Can't he just lose weight by eating less (and more healthy) and exercising more!? What's all the hype with 3 protein shakes per day along with 3 meals!? Plus, the protein seems to make him mean!. Here i will add on to my answer!.

First of all, tell him how much money he is wasting by taking that many shakes per day!. since he will get atleast some protien from food, and there is only so much protein the human body can handle, he is probably just peeing out a large portion of the protien shake!.

secondly, unless he works out hard-core, he is GAINING WEIGHT by taking more than one per day!.

third, ask him if he even knows what they are for!. If he sais meal replacement, smack him for saying that, because its not true, and because he eats 3 meals per day!. Protien shakes are (mainly) for people who do weight training as a way to recover from muscle tears that occur while weight lifting!. it speeds the process up, as well as provides carbs to replenish energy!. Whey protein shakes are considered a WEIGHT GAINER!!!!!!

So this whole scenario is just absolutely rediculous to me!. i cant immagine how much you have wasted on protien shakes!. ive been on them for a year and only used about $100 or less, because i take it properly!.

IF he does work out, tell him that proper shake should be taken immidiately - 20 minutes after a work out, and it should have 0!.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight!. THIS INCLUDES MILK, which at 2 cups is around 14g already!.

I haven't heard anything about protein making people mean but, everyone is built differently!. I've never heard 3 protein shakes plus 3 meals before!. The only way I can see that working is if the meals are small!.

The thing about protein is that it is difficult for your body to absorb it quickly so when your body does use it, it uses it for necessary functions like building muscle!.

If you are worried about your budget maybe you can work out a compromise with him!. Like 1 protein shake a day!. Oh and you may want to try looking at buying protein powder in bulk, or from an outlet store to save money on it!.

Whatever you do, don't turn this into something that is going to compromise your marriage, nothing is worth that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Chances are good that it's not the protein making him irritable, but a combination of the general change in diet, the change in activity, and whatever motivated him to lose weight in the first place!.

As to getting him to stop drinking the protein shakes, you could try pointing out that most such shakes have about as much carbs as protein, and they're just making him work that much harder for him to lose weight!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Unless he is an elite athlete I don't think its a good idea!.A lot of protein shakes have a lot of fat in them so it is probably not helping him at all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If he is already eating eggs, chicken and other sources of protein then he doesnt need those protein shakes!. He doesnt realy need them!. What he needs to do is exercise and eat less!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
