Question: What should she do to save herself now before it's too late!?
my sister has been overweight for a couple years now, and it is interfering with a lot in her life!. she needs to lose about 20-30 pounds
to be close to healthy again!. every time she says she needs to lose weight, she will diet only for a few hours and then eat junk food!.
my mom doesn't enforce her diet, and i am stuck hearing my sister compare herself to me and complain!. what should be done!? my sister just turned 13, and i can see her health getting out of control in the next couple years to come!. she never commits to much, so i know this will be impossible for her to accomplish on her own!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Alright, I'm going to tell you exactly what your sister needs to do, and how you can help her! First off I'm going to say that diets almost always fail!. Don't even bother going on a diet!. Just know what you eat and how often you should eat!. Calorie consumption is very important according to how much she already weighs!. Since she is 13 her body is still growing and can develope much faster then someone older!. This isn't to be misunderstood as being as you grow older your metabolism slows down because it doesn't!.

For the best body for a woman she will want to build some muscle which infact does not weigh more then fat!. 1 pound of muscle is equal to one pound of fat!. The only difference is muscle is more compact it takes up 1/3 the size of fat!. Hence you can actually weigh more but actually be very skinny!. This is why the BMI chart is garbage because it doesn't account for this!. The only way to keep your sister on track and checking her progress is to check her body fat percentage!. Any local gym will have one of these!. Just ask someone at the counter and I'm sure they will be glad to assist you!. Your sister will want to get down to ATLEAST 20% body fat, which is about average for women in the world!. Woman body builers have around 12%!.

Now that you know how to check her progess I'll tell you how to get this weight off her!. Many will tell you to start running or swimming, and Im just going to say thats going to be to much for your sister and she is going to want to quit after day two or three!. Jump roping is a fun and very effective excercise routine that can litterally burn 1000 calories per hour if done right!. Get her to do this WITH you and you two can spend some time together jump roping and helping her lose the weight!. Try doing sets of 100 jumps to start out or jumping 2 minutes at a time straight!. If you both are wanting to even take a step an extra farther join a gym together and begin doing squats, bench press, and other varioes lifts to increase muscle through out the entire body!. As for Nuitrition you want to be eating 12-15 calories per pound you weigh every day!. You have a basal metablism and this is the amount of calories you need in order for you to maintain bodily functions!. So if you weigh 100 pounds you will burn 1200 or so calories with out doing anything!. This is how people are able to burn more calories then they take in cause after you eat that much its still like you havent taken in any more food(Its burned all 1200 of those calories)!. In order for you to lose one pound of fat you will have to burn 3500 more calories then you take in!. So do the math and you will have a reasonable goal!. Remember to take things slow!. Your sister does not want lose skin / stretch marks!! thats almost as bad as being fat itself!.

Remember your body is a very adaptable figure!. Its the defensive and survival mechanism kicking in that causes your sister to store fat!. Your body will only do this in times of famine but its not a famine in America so why is your body doing this!? It all has to do with how often you eat!. In order for you to stop your body from storing fat completely you will have to eat 6-8 meals a day!! small of course but if you eat a big breakfest you will eat small through out the day!. Thats the key so do that!. Your meals should be at MAX apart 3 hours and At the LEAST 2 hours!. So every 2-3 hours you need to eat!. This will always keep food in your stomach and your body will have no reason to store fat!.

Do all this and you both will end up with great bodies!.

It can make a big difference when exactly she eats the food!. Having a huge breakfast is better than having a huge dinner because a person's metabolic rate is higher in the morning than at night!. Maybe your sister could try that change and still eat the same amount overall and see if that works!. Ok you say she diets it really depends on what you mean by 'diets'!. I think small changes to begin with are a good idea, denying yourself anything you crave is a bad idea as you eventually fall off the wagon!. try and be there as support for her, encourage her, go for walks or some kind of activity that will be fun as well as active such as swimming!.!.small changes to begin with!. I understand your concerns!. I myself used to be greatly overweight!. My parents promised to buy me a car if I lost enough weight!. Find something she wants, something big, get her wanting again!.!.!.
I'm glad my parents did so!. It's been a year and a half now and I have just reached my target (65 lbs!. drop)!.

take your little sister out for walks every chance you can!. Encourage her by doing things with her!. Show her what being tone and fit does for you as a person inside!. First of all, a person must diet for themselves and not for others!. Your mother is doing the right thing in not forcing your sister to diet, as it is just not going to work and would only cause resentment and rebellion!.

The most important thing to do to help all family members stay healthy is to make sure that there is no junk food in the house and that meals are filled with fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains and healthy proteins like chicken breast, salmon, or tuna!.

Your family should stop buying all processed foods and use healthy fats such as olive oil or techina [sesame seed paste] or hummus [made from chick peas] instead of trans fats or other oils!. Stop supplying her with junk food!. If she is that young than in most cases she will eat what is in the house!. Your mom should stop buying junk food, If you lead a healthy life without it and your mom can than the best bet would be to cut it out of the normal grocery list!. That's what happens in my house, the only type of chips are tortilla, the only other snack may be goldfish!. We rarely have cookies or super choco-chunk cereal!. Keep the variety of sweets in the house to a minimum and she should be able to lose some weight just from a young metabolism in general!. Also try to start a walking schedule or something with her, at that age it would be hard to keep her on her own schedule so you would probably have to have someone do this stuff with her and keep her motivated!.
