My child needs to lose some weight?!

My twelve-year-old boy needs to lose some weight!. He is about 4'11 and is about 115 pounds!. Could you please tell me some effective methods for him to lose some weight!? And maybe some statistics on what the average 12-year-old boy's height and weight are!. Thanks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My best suggestion would be for you to cut out junk food and eat about 3/4 of your normal portions!. Don't eat anything after dinner at night!. Never have dessert more than once a week!. If cutting out junk food is too drastic, then cut it out Monday through Friday and allow yourself one treat on Saturday and one on Sunday!.

Learn to love water! All sweet drinks (even diet soda) slow weight loss and aren't healthy for you!. Only have them on special occasions!.

Only chew sugarless gum!. Sometimes you just need a flavor in your mouth, but make sure it's sugar-free!.

Substitute whole milk for lesser fat!. Skim milk is very healthy if you like it, but even 2% is better than whole milk!.

You have to be active!. Ride a bike, take a walk, go skating, jump rope, go swimming, something!.!.!.
Good luck!!

NO, he doesn't need to lose weight!. He is on the cusp of puberty, and it is quite normal for the body to pad things to help support the big energy demand the onset of puberty requires!. He will grow into what weight he currently has, and it's best for him in the long run if that's what he does!. If you want him to stay in good health, get him off his duff, away from the tv and computer, and outside running around, involved in physical activities!. Make sure what he does eat is healthy food, and keep the junk to a minimum!. But don't do a calorie restricted diet, no matter what!. Take him out running with you, exercise together, go for walks, toss a ball around outside- just don't put the child on a "diet"!. Not if you want a healthy young man to develop!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Check out this link to calculate the average height and weight for a boy his age:
http://www!.medindia!.net/patients/calcula!.!.!.

Calculate his Body Mass Index to determine how overweight he is for his specific height:
http://www!.nhlbisupport!.com/bmi/

And calculate his Basal Metabolic Rate to determine how many calories he should be eating:
http://www!.phord!.com/cc/!?m=US&goal=lose&!.!.!.

Once you know how many calories he should be eating, you can slightly reduce that to assist in weight loss, or keep it the same and increase his activity level!. Find a sport he enjoys and get him involved!. Team sports like football or basketball are good, or solo sports like swimming, surfing, skating, kickboxing, martial arts etc!.

Best of luck :)

Edit: For the people saying "you should accept him for who he is", you're deluded!. We're in the middle of an obesity epidemic and all this is is a parents concern for their childs health!. The boys eating habits now will set him up for life and will be the building blocks for his self-esteem!. Wouldn't you want your son to be fit, healthy and feel good about themselves and how they look!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Do NOT tell him he's on a diet!
first start changing his day to day meals replacing junk with fruits and veggies (try vegan corn dogs etc!.) to help turn him on to healthier options
let him have sweets, but only on special occasions
buy sugar free popsicles for dessert time
eliminate fruit juices and sodas from the house as best as you can
change your families eating habits too so he doesn't feel singled out!.
take him to the park, to play with his friends, and maybe join a sport!.
kinda make some alterations to his lifestyle a bit at a time so then he won't revert back to bad havits later!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

That doesn't sound too chubby to me!. Are you sure that you are not obsessing and seeing a problem where none exists!? Why don't you check with his doctor's office!. Just talk to the nurse!. So much depends on body type and bone size you just can't tell from a chart on the web!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

get that fatty outside! lay off the fat stuff! quit playing the fat games! also don't watch the fat tv! and above all!.!.!. no fat!Www@Answer-Health@Com
