The conventional response to your question is yes!. Here's why!. Strength training causes micro-trauma of the muscles that you're working!. Your body needs time to recover and to add a little extra muscle mass!. However this is a qualitative answer to a quantitative question!.

If you limit the workout, and the micro-trauma, such that you're fully recovered in 24 hours, then it's ok to work out every day!. I do correct-form squats every day, because they feel so good!. But at my present resistance level, I don't do anywhere near the max possible number of repetitions!. If my aging knee joints could handle the stress, I'd be tempted to increase the resistance to the point where I could do a maximum of 6 reps every day!. That would save a little time!.

Another rule of thumb!. If you can do a maximum of 16 reps at a certain resistance level, then doing 8 reps every day would not be overtraining!.

Serious bodybuilders, who want max muscle development, favor a more intense workout that demands a longer recovery period!. However my goals are different!. My exercise priorities are well-being, general health, and cross-training for mountain hikes!. I recommend tweaking your strength training routine to mesh with your priorities!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, when you workout, muscle fibers are broken down, and proper rest and sufficient nutrients will help build them back bigger and stronger than before!.

By working out the same muscle group one day after another you do not give it that time to rest and rebuild, and you will end up losing muscle mass instead of gaining muscle mass by constantly breaking down your muscles without giving them time to grow!.

Your muscles require a minimal of 48 hours rest after working them out!. Most bodybuilders give muscle groups even more rest than that for maximum growth and recovery time!. Muscular growth takes place outside of the gym!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes it's overtraining!. your muscles grow while at rest, not while tearing them down in the gym!. proper rest and nutrition (and days off between working body parts) is critical!. you can skip a day, even more, between training sessions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's not "counterproductive", but rather less effective!. your muscles need time to heal, but honestly if you keep your workouts intense, you only need to workout 3-4 times a week!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Probably!. A regular "day on, day off" routine is BEST for building up those muscles impacted by lifting weights!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
