Answers:
Probably because the deadlift is primary for your lower back!. Only when you're lifting massive weight will you be able to feel it throughout!. It's best to just use deadlifts as your workout for your lower back, and switch to another exercise to work your upper and middle!.

Take care and good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

you might need to go heavier but ensure your technique is correct first:
legs shoulder width apart
bum sticking out
back straight
shoulders back
tummy tight
when standing up lean back to get the burn in your back
lift with your back, not your legs

or:
try stiff legged deadlifts
clean and jerks
dumbell rows
seated rows

Deadlifts primarily work your Lower Back (Hip extensors and flexors)!. Your Hamstrings will be worked a little and the Upper back is only used to keep the bar stable!.

Upper Back exercises are rowing movement and chins!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
