Why am I not losing weight?!?!

Question: Why am I not losing weight!?!!?
For about a fortnight now I have been eating healthily and doing more exercise and yet the number on the scales seems to stay the same! I don't understand what i am doing wrong!? Surely I should have lost at least 2 or 3 pounds by now!. I have been drinking plenty of water and eating around 1400 calories a day which is an awful lot less than I used to!. Any help would be appreciated!! :)

Answers:
3500 calories is approximately 1 lb!.

I am assuming you have already determined your 'basal metabolic rate' (BMR) as determined by your weight and height!. Then, using the 'Harris-Benedict Formula', you have an approximation of how many calories you burn each day (the Total Daily Expenditure)!.

You should take the Total Daily Expenditure (TDE) & subtract the amount of calories you burn daily (your 1400 calories) to get how many calories you lose (Total Daily Expenditure - Total calorie intake)!. For me, this would be about 2500 calories (TDE) minus an intake of 1400 calories (TCI)!. That would equal 1100 calories burned per day on your diet!. That would equal a 2!.2 lb!. weight loss over 7 days (1100 calories X 7 days / 3500 calories per pound)!.

A 2!.2 lb weight loss is only a very small percentage of my body weight (1!.4% of my 150 lbs body weight)!. I can easily gain this weight back with fluids (water, gatorade, juice, Coca-cola)!. If I drink 4 glasses of fluid (8 oz each), I will gain back 2 pounds! Food and snacks can also add weight back!. So, consider your hydration levels, and try to weigh yourself before meals!.

Other considerations:
Losing weight is much more difficult than gaining weight because there is a limit to maximum daily weight loss!. If your Total Daily Expenditure is 3500 calories and you EAT NOTHING, you burn about 1 lb!. each day (maximum)!. But, let's say you are trying to gain weight!. Eating a 12,000 calorie diet like Michael Phelps, and having a 3500 calorie Total Daily Expenditure means you gain about 2!.5 pounds each day!.

To see a SAFE & considerable loss of weight on the scales, you should consider losing a maximum of 3-4 lbs!. per week, assuming you are obese (BMR >30)!. (Larger losses will cause dangerous loss of heart muscle tissue) At 0!.5 lbs of weight loss per day, you would be running a calorie deficit of about 1750 calories (Total Daily Expenditure - Total calorie intake)!.

Some nutritionists argue that our bodies have a 'set-point'!. So, when we try to gain weight or lose weight, it tends to move back towards a certain weight range!. This is in part regulated by our hunger levels, such as the hunger center in the hypothalamus of our brain, and hormones like Leptin!. Our weight is also regulated by our metabolism!. Thyroid hormones, like T3 & T4 mediate an increase in basal metabolic rate, and breakdown of adipose tissue!.

Hope that helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Weight loss is never consistent!. It sounds as tho you are following a good program!. Water is so important!.
Think about the foods you are eating, and the additives!.
Fresh fruit and veggies are good, and avoind fats and salt!.
Possibly, your slow weight loss could be related to the food, itself, and not just the calories!.
For a personal check, try writing down EVERYTHING you eat, and how much, like 1/2 cup green beans with 1 tablespoon butter and salt!. the green beans are good, but not the butter and salt!. Same for potatoes!. They are good, but what you put on them needs review!.
Broil meats (and I do like red meat and unless you are a confirmed vegan, should be included in your regular diet!.)
I hope this helps a little!.
Another thought, and there is a lot of controversy about this, try to avoid snacking just before bedtime!. If you want something at bedtime, try a glass of 100% fruit juice or small pie ce of fruit!.
Speaking about fruits and juices - always choose 100% juice, not those fruit cocktails that only contain 5% juice and a lot of sugar, and while the calorie count may be low, the only thing they really provide is carbs!.
Colon cleansers are questionable, Not only are they uncomfortable, they also help eliminate natural intestinal flora and can make you very uncomfortable!.
Don't fall for the hype about diet pills and OTC stuff!. The only loss you will experience is from your checking account!.

also how much you weigh is no indication of how fit you are!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
