I'm a certified health professional in the fields of athletic training and nutrition!.

First, to simply answer your question:

It burns the same amount of calories!. It is easier because the rain cools off your system and the muscles do not overheat, thus the blood doesn't need extra water and oxygen to flow thru as fast to keep it cool!.

Because of this, the heart has an easier time, and the lactic acid buildup is slower- thus making your run EASIER- but you still burn the same amount of calories!.

(I would also like to add this: a run should NEVER be easier- if it starts to get easy, push yourself to run faster, longer, and perhaps up more hills!. Every day you either get better, or you get worse!. ALWAYS push yourself!.)

Now I would like to say some fundamental rules you should know about weight loss/calories (because you mentioned them):

1) Athletes become slim, toned, and sexy by working hard and eating healthy- not by counting calories!.

2) Every person is different- an athlete needs more calories a day, usually, to be able to work out hard and burn them off again- to get better!.

3) The above also depends on body size!. Most athletes eat around 3000 calories a day- even the females!.

ALSO, it is NOT about how much you eat- it's about WHAT you eat!. its better to eat 5000 healthy calories of natural, healthy foods, than 1500 of crap, like microwaved dinners, school food, fast food, candy, or unbalanced diets!.

4) Do not weigh yourself on a scale- it is misleading!. Fat weighs LESS than muscle, so you will gain weight (but look better) by replacing fat with muscle!.

5) Do not ever starve yourself, and always eat until you are comfortably full!. This is so you can run harder, and burn them off!. Eventually, your body will crap out unwanted or unneeded extra food- it will "become smart" and know that you are trying to become athletic!. (it is a BIOmechanical system!) I could eat all day for a month and not exercise, and not get fat- cuz I work out hard every day, and my body KNOWS that I am staying that way, that I want to, etc!.

6) Don't ever cut carbs (like in the atkins diet)!. it creates a catch 22/downward cycle of this:

dont eat carbs, so:

am tired!. exercise a little less!.

eat less carbs, so u dont get fat from exercising less!.

workout even LESS cuz ur more tired!.

eventually, the body suffers a physical breakdown, causing you to either be compelled to eat more (thus suffering rapid weight gain and feelings of nausea for awhile), or death from lack of energy and carbohydrates!.
(so eat carbs balanced, along with the other 4 food groups!)

AND here are some things you can do/eat to HELP lose weight

1) eat a big breakfast (2 eggs over easy, a small bowl of cereal, water, and a protein shake)- breakfast NEVER goes to belly!. u dont ever sleep with breakfast food in stomach!.

2) eat 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) with 2 small healthy snacks inbetween!.

3) ALWAYS eat the 5 food groups, and NEVER starve yourself!.

4) NEVER eat fast food, microwaved food, junk food, artificial sweeteners, soda, candy, chips, ice cream, etc!.

5) never eat or drink anything with "lite" or "sugar free" advertised- it WILL have chemical artificial sweeteners (like splenda, which is 3/4 chlorine!) AND NEVER CONSUME CAFFEINE, TAURINE, GINSENG, ETC!.!

6) NEVER eat later than dinner, and never eat dinner later than 7!.

7) get AT LEAST 8!.5 hours of sleep a night!.

8) Eat hot peppers! These will speed up metabolism and make you hungry! so twice a week, eat 2 hot peppers with dinner until your metabolism speeds up (it wont speed up much at ALL, but if u exercise, they are a POTENT COMBINATION!)

9) you NEED to eat meat! The best kinds of meat/protein are, in order: tuna, all other types of fish, eggs, milk, chicken, steak!.

(like I said, all food groups!. the key is to HELP your body, NOT HURT IT BY DOING DIETS THAT GIVE INSUFFICIENT NOURISHMENT!)

10) NEVER overeat; NEVER undereat; ALWAYS eat till you are COMFORTABLE, COMFORTABLY FULL, AND FEEL "DONE"!.

11) eat a SMALLER dinner- EXCEPT make it normal-sized when eating hot peppers- otherwise, you will be hungry and not able to sleep that night well, or you will eat 2 late!.

12) When you eat food, YOU MUST ENJOY IT! The most important part of eating is to savor the food!. You must enjoy it, and think it tastes good, even if it doesn't!. The mindset you have of the food tasting good helps you digest it better, crap it better, and makes it give you more energy, and less of it will potentially go to fat on you!.

13) This is kind of like #12, except: you MUST CHEW your food very well! The food should be COMPLETELY ground up, until its basically a squishy substance with no individual parts, b4 you swallow it!. 50 chews is the average rule, but on some foods it ma
