Actually, you really shouldn't deviate too much from your normal diet!. By doing so you're asking for some gastro-intestinal difficulties throughout the race!. The idea of carb loading before a endurance races is 1980s science!.
Have a low GI, high GL carb 3-4 hours before the race along with some proteins and fats, this will help give you sustained energy!. If it's a shorter race, that should be plenty, if it's a longer race then have something during the race as your glycogen stores become depleted, preferably simple sugar, hydration and electrolyte replacement (blend of Gatorade and water or water and a piece of banana or orange)!. I too am prone to side stitches, mostly during running, so I usually stick with the liquid stuff!. Another good option and a more new school method is to use goo packs, concentrated fast acting medium chain carbs, along with some water, during the longer events!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
